What is Mips®?

There’s lots to think about when searching for the perfect riding helmet. If you want to make the most out of your equestrian adventures, having the right gear is essential. You need the proper tack for your horse and all the right safety gear for yourself. At the top of this list is a helmet, which should be worn whenever you’re around the stables, on the trail, or in the ring. If you’re not sure you need a helmet, consider that the most frequent cause of death or serious injury among horse activities is head injuries. A helmet can protect you in the case of a fall, and also from other impacts that can occur when you’re on or around horses. Our low-friction layer inside the helmet allows multi-directional movement of 10-15mm on certain angled impacts, intended to help reduce rotational force to the head.

What makes a good equestrian helmet?
A riding helmet should obviously help protect you from getting hurt if you fall off your horse. The impacts that occur from falling are usually angled impacts. This can cause harmful rotational to your head, so you want a helmet that is intended to help manage those forces and reduce rotational motion. Equestrian helmets with a Mips® safety system are designed with an integrated low-friction layer that’s intended to help reduce those rotational forces during certain angled impacts.

Will a Mips® safety system make my helmet less comfortable?
No, the Mips® system is positioned within the helmet so that you’ll hardly notice it. Mips® systems weigh between 25-45 grams, about the equivalent of a typical energy bar.

What is required for a helmet to have Mips?
The helmet must pass the Mips® strict test protocol.

EQ3 Pardus is Back on Track EQ3’s newest helmet with a completely new stylish design. The helmet comes in two different designs, smooth which is matte and microfiber with glitter. Pardus has good ventilation thanks to several different air holes on the back and back of the helmet. The lining in the helmet is removable and made of Coolmax which transports away moisture. The lining can be easily washed clean with lukewarm water.

Pardus is equipped with the same MIPS rotation system as the EQ3 Lynx, which was the helmet that won Folksam’s Best in test 2018.

The MIPS Brain Protection System significantly increases safety against brain damage. The MIPS system mimics the security system that already exists in the human head.

When the head is subjected to a skewed stroke, the brain can move in the cerebrospinal fluid, which reduces the violence to which the brain is subjected during a skewed stroke.

The MIPS system is the yellow moving shell you see inside all Back on Track helmets.

The helmet has a fit for slightly more elongated heads and you may need to go up one size to the previous helmet.
