WHAT IS MICROCURRENT THERAPY

Microcurrent therapy was first introduced in the form of Frequency Specific Microcurrent or FSM which was developed in 1995 as a way of treating muscle and nerve pain by using frequencies found on a list that came with a medical device developed in 1922 and applying them with a two-channel microcurrent device. This was followed by the introduction of smaller wearable Wide Spectrum Microcurrent Therapy devices for use at home or at the yard in 2012.

Microcurrent therapy uses the principles of biophysics and the effects of biological resonance and frequencies that seem to change cell signaling and thereby change cell function and even structures, such as scar tissue, to reduce pain and improve function. The frequencies seem to improve healing from physical and emotional injuries, resolve nerve pain, phantom limb pain, muscle, joint, neck and low back pain, fibromyalgia, shingles and inflammatory conditions such as irritable bowel, asthma and chronic fatigue. Microcurrent therapy is not used to treat active infections or cancer or any potentially fatal condition.

Microcurrent therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses very low-level electrical currents (in the microampere range) to stimulate cellular activity, repair tissue, and reduce pain

Unlike traditional TENS units, a Microcurrent unit's output is much lower and therefore the stimulation is often not “felt” or perceived by the patient and works on a cellular level to repair cells. Since the stimulation is not felt Microcurrent therapy has been can be used as a veterinary aid to heal and maintain our animal friends. Microcurrent restores lost positive and negative electrons that are lost when injured to accelerate the body’s own healing agenda. When cells are damaged they become electrically imbalanced. Microcurrent picks up where the body fails by increasing ATP levels and helps to heal the damaged area. This shortens recovery time while returning damaged cells to a normal state of initiating cellular activity.

What is ATP? (Adenosine Triphosphate): ATP transports energy within cells for metabolism. This energy is integral to the function of every living cell. Research has shown that microcurrent therapy using microamp (µA) output can increase the level of ATP production up to 500%. This is extremely important because injuries often lose ATP supplies. Unlike other forms of electrotherapy, microcurrent has a cumulative effect on ATP levels. The higher the ATP, the more the body can accelerate the healing process.

ATP is made inside the mitochondria
of your cells
Microcurrent therapy sends gentle electrical
signals to the cells
This stimulation activates the mitochondria
where ATP is produced
More ATP (400-500%) means more energy for
healing, repair and performance
Cells function better, you feel better
and your body heals faster
Microcurrent therapy works with your body
to create lasting change from the inside out

HOW MICROCURRENT THERAPY HELPS WITH PAIN MANAGEMENT

The last three decades have seen a rise in the use of microcurrent electrical therapy (MET). It is used primarily by physicians, dentists, veterinarians, occupational therapists, psychologists, chiropractors, and acupuncturists for the management of acute, chronic, and post-operative pain.

A 2025 paper remarked that this low-risk, powerfully therapeutic and inexpensive technology is grossly underutilized due to lack of awareness, even though studies support that it improves pain and function in many musculoskeletal conditions.

Pain is your body's way of telling you that
something is not right
Microcurrent therapy communicates with your
cells to restore balance
This helps reduce pain, sensitivity
and discomfort
Less inflammation means less pressure
on nerves and tissues
Your body heals faster and functions
more efficiently
Feel better. Move better.
Live better

TYPES OF PAIN THAT BENEFIT FROM MICROCURRENT THERAPY?

Microcurrent therapy offers effective long term pain management for patients seeking treatment for a variety of health issues, including:

  • acute and chronic pain
  • arthritis
  • sports injuries
  • ligament injuries
  • muscular strains
  • migraines and headaches
  • edema
  • neuropathy
  • concussion
  • fibromyalgia
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
  • sciatica
  • tendonitis
  • TMJ and more...

HOW MICROCURRENT HELPS ATHLETES

Combining microcurrent therapy with exercise can be very helpful. Microcurrent used before and after a workout improves fat breakdown and reduces muscle soreness.

Less inflammation. Less swelling. Less Pain No more DOMS. Feel fresh. Train again sooner More ATP. More energy. Faster recovery Stronger repair . Better healing. Return with confidence Targets the source. Relieves pain naturally Balanced body. Stronger performance.
